Planning Guide

So you want a web site?
As you start to think about a web site for your company, there are a few things that you should consider:

  1. What is the purpose of your site?
  2. Do you need to register a domain name? (e.g. www.domainname.com) What would you like your domain name to be? What others could you use if it was taken?
  3. What information and services do you want on your site?
  4. Do you have any existing materials that you can reuse? (e.g. company logo)
  5. What are your competitors doing on their sites?

These few questions start you on the path to a well-designed website and are just a few of the questions we'll ask as a part of our initial consultation with you. We'll use the information from the consultation to create a custom, professional design for your company in a timely manner.

What do you provide?
When we get ready to create your site, here's a sample of what you'll need to provide us:

  1. A completed needs assessment questionnaire
  2. Content for the site (including text and graphics in electronic format). Graphic and content creation are available.
  3. Other information that might be needed (e.g. information for a database)

A site start to finish:

  1. Initial consultation with you: Crimsonkite.com has a list of questions that we ask you to answer. If you are unsure of the answers to some of the questions, we can help you with the answers.
  2. Contract and schedule: Based on the answers to the questions asked in the consultation, we'll provide an initial list of the specifics of the site (pages and technology needed). Once the site specifics meet your approval, then you'll get a schedule of deliverables (a fancy name for what you'll get when) and a budget. Sign off on those two and a contract and provide the initial payment, and your site is on the way to completion!
  3. Signing off along the way: Based on the schedule we gave you, we'll be having you approve things such as design, navigation, look and feel, and other pieces of the site. (Keep in mind that changes you make may result in additional charges.)
  4. Testing, testing, 1-2-3! Once the site is completed, it will be uploaded to a development site for you and us to look at, test, and play with. This is your last chance to make changes before your site launches, though you will be able to make changes afterwards. (Keep in mind that if your site includes a database, all information entered on the development site will be removed from it when the site is moved to its final home.)
  5. Launch! Once we've received final sign-off and the final payment, your site goes live for all the world to see. All of our sites include one free month of maintenance - the same maintenance service that you would receive if you sign up for our maintenance plan. At this point, you can sign up to continue the plan or to use our services on an as-needed basis.
